Who we are
“There is no doubt the LJC changed the course of my career. It’s not overstating it to say that it changed the course of my life! At the beginning, it was just a great way to meet new people and to stay up to date with technology trends in an easy way. Over time, as my involvement grew, it helped me to take my first step into presenting, which ultimately led to my current role as a developer advocate for a company that makes a product I love (JetBrains, IntelliJ IDEA). Working as a developer advocate lets me work remotely too, so this career path gives me the freedom to live and work wherever I want. I also met my husband at an LJC event! Without the LJC I really would not be living the life I have now: my job, my location, my family all came as a result of me going to a few user group events back in 2009.”
Trisha Gee, Developer Advocate @ JetBrains
The LJC is an official Java User Group for developers based in London. It was founded in November 2007 and since then has grown to over 6500 members and is now the biggest Java User Group in the UK.
We run a variety of regular events ranging from social events and technical presentations to our full day unconference. On top of the events we run prize draws and have an active mailing list/forum. We support the Graduate Development Community in London and promote London based Open Source Software projects where possible.
Membership is restricted to Java developers working in or around London (or those hoping to train in Java, or relocate to London). Membership will not be granted to those involved in the recruitment industry.
It’s completely free to join and 99% of our events are completely free. The only event which is charged for is the Unconference, the charge is minimal and it is there to cover refreshments on the day.
Just click on the link on this page to sign up to the mailing list, you’ll hear of all of our latest news and events and can take part in the monthly prize draws.
Absolutely not – it’s completely up to you which events you attend and which you don’t. Every event attracts a different crowd.
Events are held across London in a variety of venues including IBM, Skills Matter and Oracle offices.
